Case Study: My Experience With Services

The Major Parts of an Electrical Panel

Your day’s assignment is on the functioning of an electrical panel. Whenever you want to do any electrical repair, your first task will be to switch off power coming to the circuit of the part of repair, of which you will do at the electric panel. You may want to call it a load center and you are still right.

One of the functions of the load center is to act as a power distribution center, to all other centers which are connected to various destinations in the house. The main load center can be supplemented with an additional electrical panel, which can be of a smaller capacity, just to enhance the capacity of the main one. The electrical panel is fitted with a door, which will give you access to other major parts of the panel, which are called circuit breakers, for breaking the current floor to the branch you want it not to.

There is always the main circuit breaker which is also known as the double-pole service connect. As you open the door of the panel, what you will see first are the main circuit breaker owing to its size and conspicuous positioning, which is normally at the top, and sometimes at the bottom or the sides. Its function is to control power going to various branches branch circuit breakers.

A part of the main circuit breaker are two black service wires, which are otherwise known as hot bus bars, which enter it through the sides. As they enter they are snapped into position by the main circuit breaker so that as provide power to the circuits. Furthermore, there are some two other wires leaving the main circuit breaker which are hot.

Current leaving the two hot wires will be converted to electric energy which will be used in the various electric appliances and bulbs. There are also neutral bus bars which are connected with the two smaller neutral wires leaving the main circuit breaker. Then the bar connects to the main electrical service neutral which returns the current to the utility grid, and the cycle continues.

Also, the neutral bus bars connected to the ground will get connected to the main electrical service panel at the main bonding point known as a jumper. Moreover, in order to control the effect of stray currents, another connection is made between the neutral wires to a rod at the ground using a copper wire.

Depending various factors, it can be prudent to make an independent connection between the neutral wire to the ground rod. Unlike with the last connection, electricity flows from the neutral wire to the ground bus.

It is part of your assignment to know how the electrical service panel operates, among other electrical services.
